Voter ID-Aadhaar card Linking: Linking of Aadhaar with voter IDs was authorised following the passing of Election Laws (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha in December 2021.


The last date to link voter ID with Aadhaar card has been extended to March 31, 2024, from the earlier April 1, 2023, the government informed. With this, users can link their Aadhaar to the voter ID online or through SMS by March 31, 2024. The linking process is not mandatory in nature but helps in “identification of registration of the name of the same person in more than one constituency or more than once in the same constituency”, the Election Commission said.

“The Central Government hereby makes the following amendment in the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Law and Justice (Legislative Department), number S.O.2893(E), dated 17th June 2022, namely: — In the said notification, for the words and figures, “the 1st April 2023” for the words and figures, “the 31st March 2024” shall be substituted," ministry of Law and Justice said in a notification.

Step 1: Visit the official website of the National Voter's Service Portal (NVSP) here.

Step 2: Log in to the portal.

Step 3: Go to "Search in Electoral Roll" option.

Step 4: Fill in details and then enter the Aadhaar number.

Step 5: Users will then receive an OTP on the registered mobile number or email for the purpose of authentication.

Step 6: Enter the OTP. With this, your Voter ID card will be linked to the Aadhaar card.
