Allowed an increase of three per cent in the inflation allowance

As it has been decided to increase the inflation allowance.  The cabinet meeting today approved a three per cent hike in inflation allowance for central government employees and pensioners.
A three per cent increase in DA means that the inflation allowance will now be 31 per cent.  The additional direct benefit will go to more than 1 crore central employees and pensioners.
In July this year, the government had hiked the inflation allowance by 11 per cent to 28 per cent.  Earlier, DA was being paid at 17%.
 Why the increase?

The fact is that the Labor Ministry AICPI (All India Consumer Price Index) had released the figures for the last three months.  It included June, July, and August numbers.  The AICPI index reached 123 points in August.  This is an indication that the government may go further in terms of inflation allowances.  It is on this basis that the costly allowances of central employees are determined.
The additional allowance will also have an effect on other allowances

Other allowances will also increase as the inflation allowance increases.  These include Travel Allowance, City Allowance.  So there will be an increase in provident fund and gratuity for retirement.
